The long awaited Malanga Café is finally open. Melissa Vias, owner of Pinecrest¹s newest restaurant is thrilled that after 6 months of much anticipation her dream came true. She is thrilled to bring a piece of the traditional Cuban cuisine to the Village of Pinecrest. ³Malanga is an example of a very old tradition derived from our Spanish and Cuban ancestors. We have no secret recipe. What we have is a beautiful place where people come to talk, eat and drink.²

According to Mrs. Vias and her head chef, Haydee Porras, what makes Malanga different is that all of her dishes are made fresh using homemade recipes. The famous croquetas and the Cuban TAMALES are hand made from scratch at the restaurant. The famous PAN CON LECHON is a recipe that her husband introduced to her, which comes from his native hometown of Santiago de Cuba. Last but not least, the COCHINILLO or suckling pig is handpicked to provide her customers with the freshest choice available.

The handwritten messages on the infamous wall has brought people from all over South Florida. A mural with famous Cuban sayings is signed by all guests when visiting the restaurant. In a humble way, it reminds some Cubans of the world famous ³bodeguita del medio² in Old Havana Cuba.
