Librarian Assistant JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities The goal of the librarian is to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. To instill a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information. To collaborate with faculty to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness. To provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the college library program (SLP) is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the college and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. To establish an environment that is welcoming, and conducive to studying. Prepare and execute all student activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs. 1. Assist students and staff in the circulation of library materials, use of the online catalog, and use of online database resources. 2. Performs a variety of clerical and computer-related tasks as assigned. 3. Responsible for shelving, straightening and shelf reading of library materials. 4. Pull library materials which need to be mended, discarded and/or replaced. (Every Quarter) 5. Process new library materials received for circulation. 6. Process periodicals received for circulation. 7. Sort returned materials by type, location, or unit of library to which assigned. 8. Checks to see if returned materials are overdue. 9. Checks to see if returned materials are on hold. 10. Examines returned materials for obvious damage. 11. Collects and records fines 12. Records receipt of payment for lost or damaged materials. 13. Answers borrower's questions concerning circulation rules. 14. Assists in training of work study students in circulation procedures. 15. Attends library-related meetings, workshops and in-service programs. 16. Participate in New students' orientation 1. Take pictures for student ID cards 2. Provide information on library services and policies 3. Assist with the Student Portal Training and social media training 17. Participate in graduate students exit interview to verify pending library material 18. Distribute student ID cards 19. Assist in students' retention activities, collect and post pictures of student activities and update general campus information boards 20. Participate in decoration of the campus according to celebrations 21. Performs Inventory of marketing materials 22. Performs Inventory of textbooks- receives orders, distributes books/tools to students, reconciles with Accounting Department 23. Cover the Front Desk during lunch hours 24. Other duties as assigned 25. Proctor for the EPA certification Seasonal Participates in the VITA Program QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum of an associate degree with some course work in data processing * May require an undergraduate degree and/or training in library science * Clerical experiences such as filing, classification, or maintenance of supplies is helpful 0-2 Years of Experience * Strong communication skills. Preferable Knowledge Software: Resource Mate and Campus VUE Student Management Plus Campus VUE Finance ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Demonstrated ability in the following areas: * Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment. * Responsibility for follow-up on actions based on various team projects. * High organization skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously. * Recognize and act on opportunities; adjust direction when situation warrants * Work independently without regular direct * Maintains professional appearance and behaves in a manner appropriate to a public setting. * Performs reliably, dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management.
