City Theatre in Miami FL will be holding local auditions and accepting video auditions for its upcoming SHORTS ON SHIPS productions, seeking two companies of five actors of all types, any ethnicity. Particularly interested in versatile, comedic, character actors with positive attitudes. Actors should be able to create multiple, unique, memorable characters of varying ages, nationalities, ethnicities, etc.

is a new venture that is launching February 8, 2018. City Theatre is producing twelve short plays that will be performed in rotating repertory onboard the ships of one of the world’s premier cruise lines (the name of the cruise line has not yet been publicly announced). Ships travel to a variety of international destinations including Caribbean, Central American, Mediterranean, Asian, and European locations. Though we are not currently able to disclose the name of the cruise line, it will be disclosed to you at your audition.

Shorts is short for short plays – complete works that last approximately 10 minutes each. Rehearsals will begin in the Miami area on January 8. A pre-rehearsal on-board orientation and tour will take place on January 4.

Two companies of five actors each will be cast. The first company will live and perform on board the ship for a period of three months. During this time, the second company will serve as standby actors (at home) (Should a member of the first cast become unable to continue, a standby actor will join the remaining cast on board the ship for the remainder of the tour). In May, the first cast will leave the ship and become standby actors for three months (at home) and the second cast will board the ship and perform until August. We are seeking multiple casts to be engaged for various periods throughout 2018.

Actors will perform each production (approximately equivalent to a one-act) twice in an evening. Productions will be performed approximately two evenings per week.

Actors will also be required to create and lead an enrichment activity at least once per voyage. Such enrichment activities could be a class, a lecture, a workshop, etc. and will have the ship’s guests as attendees.

Actors will be considered part of the cruise line’s crew and additional duties will include, but are not limited to:
Life Safety
Guest relations
On Board Activities

Actors must be US citizens with a passport valid for six months of travel with at least six pages for immigration stamps.

Actors will need to take and pass an extensive Pre-Employment Medical Evaluation. Also, proof of Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccination will need to be provided.

While this employment will not be covered by an Equity contract because the productions will be performed internationally, Equity Actors are able to audition and accept should a role be offered.

Actors will be housed in ocean-view cabins. Double occupancy is likely.
Meals are provided in a variety of restaurants on board.
Actors have the opportunity to debark the ship in most ports of call to experience the local culture.

Local auditions will be held December 11 10a – 6p and December 18 10a – 3p by appointment only. Actors should prepare 2 contrasting comedic monologues not exceeding 2 ½ minutes combined.
